Dear Members of the Interior Designers of Alberta,
December 2022 is upon us and although it is typically a very busy month for us all, we would like to encourage you to take the time to consider the past year. Reflecting
helps you to develop your skills and review their effectiveness, rather than just carrying on doing things as you have always done them. It is about questioning, in a positive way, what you do and why you do it, and then deciding whether there is a better,
or more efficient, way of doing it in the future. The IDA is also pondering the past 12 months. We are contemplating what we did well and want to continue to do, what we can do better and improve on, and what new initiatives we might want to contemplate.

Biophilia: Bringing Nature into Interior Design
|
|
|
Written by Eric Baldwin
September 01, 2020
Excerpt from ArchDaily:
“Over time, our connections to the natural world diverged in parallel with technological developments. Advances in the 19th and 20th centuries fundamentally changed how people interact with nature. Sheltered from
the elements, we spent more and more time indoors. Today, the majority of people spend almost 80-90% of their time indoors, moving between their homes and workplaces. As interior designers embrace biophilia, they make spaces that better reduce stress while
improving cognitive function and creativity. Utilizing biophilic approaches in interiors, they can use botanical shapes and forms, as well as create distinct visual relationships to nature. In doing so, we understand that biophilia consists of different natural
layers that echo interior design.”
